Tralynna Scott, Cherokee Nation Businesses chief economist

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service recently appointed Tralynna Scott, Cherokee Nation Businesses chief economist, to its advisory council.

"We're proud to have Tralynna on the advisory council," said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. "Tralynna is an incredible asset to the Cherokee Nation and always answers the call to service."

The council, established in 1953, is a public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss a broad range of issues in tax administration. Scott's three-year appointment was among 18 new members. The council is slated to submit an annual report in November.

"It's an honor to represent Indian tribal governments in this role," Scott said. "I'm looking forward to working with IRS officials to provide feedback and recommendations to further tax policy and administration within Indian country."

Scott formerly served as Cherokee Nation treasurer, overseeing the tribe’s more than $1.5 billion budget. Appointed in 2019, Scott undertook the unprecedented rollout of COVID-19 recovery funds.

In 2021, Scott became chief economist for Cherokee Nation Businesses, providing economic analysis to guide future growth and investment. She also serves as the Cherokee Nation's special envoy to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

"Cherokee Nation Businesses and Cherokee citizens benefit greatly from the talent and leadership Tralynna provides," said Chuck Garrett, CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses. "Her perspective, not only as an excellent business leader but also as a Cherokee, will be of great value to the advisory council. We're proud of her willingness to serve."

Scott also serves on the Leadership Council of the Federal Reserve of Minneapolis Center for Indian Country Development, as well as on the boards of Family & Children Services and Northeast Oklahoma Red Cross.

CNB generates about $2 billion in revenue with an economic impact of about $3 billion to northeast Oklahoma every year. CNB is one of northeast Oklahoma's largest employers and has businesses in all 50 states, 26 countries and two U.S. territories.
